Joey Bania is a Berlin-based director, editor, and director of photography. After graduating from the University of Otago in 2011 with a Master of Science Communication, he worked as a cameraperson on natural history productions for the BBC, National Geographic, Vice, The Guardian, and more. Since then, he has worked internationally as a director, DP, and editor on short films, documentaries, commercials, and music video productions.

In 2021, he participated in CPH:LAB and produced the VR 360 short Oceanic Feeling, which premiered at CPH:DOX 2022 and screened in Hamburg, London, Montreal, and during the 2022 Venice Biennale. His work has screened internationally at festivals and art galleries, including the Auckland Art Gallery and the Estonian National Museum. His recent work as a cinematographer for artist Juliet Carpenter contributed to her 2024 Walters Prize nomination, and his 2025 short film Wander Alone won the Best New Vision award at the 48th International Wildlife Film Festival.
