Joey Bania is a  Berlin-based director and cinematographer. After graduating from the University of Otago in 2011 with a Master of Science Communication, he worked as a cameraperson on natural history productions for the BBC, National Geographic, Vice, The Guardian and more. Since then he has worked internationally as a director, DP and editor on short film, documentary, commercial and music video productions. In 2021 he participated in CPH:LAB and produced the VR 360 short Oceanic feeling which premiered at CPH:DOX 2022 and screened in Hamburg, London, Montreal and Venice in the context of the 2022 Venice Biennale. His work has screened at festivals internationally as well as art galleries including the Auckland Art Gallery and at the Estonian National Museum  His recent work as a cinematographer for artist Juliet Carpenter helped her win a 2024 Walters-prize nomination.
